Communication & Connection

autism, social/sensory differences

Every child communicates, connects, and experiences the world in their own way.

Some children may communicate or interact with others differently, have deeply focused interests, prefer predictability, or experience sounds, textures, movement, and other sensory input more intensely or differently. These social, communication, and sensory differences can shape how a child learns, builds relationships, participates at school, and navigates everyday experiences. Understanding how your child communicates, connects, and experiences their environment can help identify the supports and settings where they thrive.

Understanding Autism

Autism is one reason a child may experience differences in communication, social interaction, sensory processing, interests, and routines. Every autistic child has their own combination of strengths, preferences, interests, and support needs. Understanding the individual child—not simply the diagnosis—is central to identifying meaningful supports.
